Holiday baking is all about getting the family together. These candy cane cookies are perfect when baking with kids. My girls love making cookies that you have to handle, roll out and cut out. They love it even more when they are as colorful as these candy cane cookies are.
These Candy Cane cookies are courtesy of The Neelys, Patrick and Gina, who are just too cute in the kitchen cooking together. You can watch them make these cookies and you'll see what I mean.

Candy Cane Cookies

Posted by JMom | Tuesday, October 14, 2008 | Cook with Children, desserts | 1 comments »Whenever I am in the kitchen experimenting, I am always glad to have an extra hand. This is The Clone, my eager assistant. When she saw I was getting ready to start piping, she quickly ran over to volunteer even though she had just got out of the shower and still had a towel on her head. LOL!
She did a great job piping the dough for the cream puffs we were making.
See, I had made some eclairs for Daring Bakers a couple of month's ago and I kind of had a little mishap, under baking the pastry then having them get stuck to the pan. I promised then to try the recipe out again.
Since we weren't bound by the limits of Daring Bakers, we decided to make Profiteroles or cream puffs. This time around, we made sure they were nicely browned and cooked all the way. They were delicious!

Spinach Quesadillas
Posted by JMom | Tuesday, July 22, 2008 | Cook with Children, Mexican, Quick meals, snacks | 0 comments » This is one of my daughter's specialty dishes. They can now prepare this dish and change it up to suit their taste, all by themselves.
This is a perfect dish to cook with kids because one, which child doesn't like quesadillas? If they like it, and it's easy enough to make, then they will like making it and eating it even more. I've always said that the kitchen is one of the best classrooms in the home. Teach kids to cook early, supervise them, and they will come away with much more than just a full stomach.
Here'e how to make these Spinach Quesadillas...

Cherry Dump Cake
Posted by JMom | Monday, June 23, 2008 | Cook with Children, desserts, family | 1 comments » Here is another easy treat to bake that can make you seem like a pro baker, Cherry Dump Cake. Every time I say the name, I can't help but cringe just a little. I just have a very negative connotation with the word 'dump' that my daughters kindly reminded me of. OK, enough of that.
This Cherry Crisp, as I've chosen to call it, is very easy to make, a perfect cooking-with-children recipe. A toddler can probably do this whole dish with just a little help from mom.
