A Medley of Vegetables

Posted by JMom | Tuesday, April 29, 2008 | | 2 comments »

VegetablesWe’ve been eating too much meat and not enough vegetables so last weekend, we cooked us up a preview of things to come in our garden. We can’t wait for summer! Spritjes

Posted by JMom | Tuesday, April 22, 2008 | , | 0 comments »

SpritjesWhether it's the holiday season or anytime the rest of the year, these sugar cookies will please any cravings for sweets.

These don't have to be this boring circular shape, these cookies are perfect for piping into decorative shapes especially if you have a cookie press. If you'd rather do cut out, you can do that too, just cool the dough down first to make it easier to handle. It's really buttery so it can get pretty soft if left out too long.

Get the recipe for these sugar cookies.

Lasang Pinoy 25 logo Ajay's Writings on the Wall is hosting the 25th edition of Lasang Pinoy and the theme is Make Your Own Bento!! The girls and I have been talking about making our own bento for the longest time. They just love those cute bento boxes! But our attempts have simply been half-hearted at best. Maybe this event will spur us to try a little harder. Look out for our attempts at bento!

I'm a Daring Baker!

Posted by JMom | Tuesday, April 01, 2008 | , , | 1 comments »

Birthday CakeI finally worked up the nerve to join the Daring Bakers and this was my first challenge, Dorie Greenspan's Perfect Birthday Cake! It was a perfect them and timely considering March is my daughter Jade's birthday and we've been celebrating all month :)

I made the cake twice, the first time just the way it came with lemon flavored frosting and raspberry filling. The second time, I made it with pineapple filling and flavored yellow frosting. Both versions were delicious! But between all that buttery frosting and the flan I ended up making to use up the egg yolks, I think I need to lay off anything fatty for a while.

Click on the photo if you'd like the recipe for this cake.
